Below is the letter we shared with our KCMT families on Thursday, March 12, 2020
Dear KCMT Families,
In an effort to contribute to reducing the potentially devastating impact of the COVID-19 virus, KCMT has made the difficult decision to perform Alice in Wonderland in THE Fall OF 2020. All cast members will keep their current part unless they elect to withdraw.
SENIORS – you are invited to keep your role and participate if you are staying in the area. If you are leaving the area, we may be able to fit you in for a cameo performance.
To all… we are considering a July “Broadway Revue”! More info to come…
This decision is KCMT’s direct contribution to “flattening the curve” (link below) as recommended by the CDC and local health authorities. Social distancing has been highly effective in limiting the spread of this unprecedented virus in many communities around the globe, and in this scenario, we must protect our most vulnerable family and community members.
We know this is a very emotional decision for all of you, and we did not make it lightly. We do hope, however, that having an answer to the question, “What is KCMT going to do” will eliminate some of the stress and angst you have been feeling.
So, to be clear, effective immediately, KCMT is suspending all operations, including:
- All rehearsals (including Friday, 3/13 dancer rehearsal)
- Saturday, 3/14 rehearsals
- Saturday, 3/14 Board of Directors Annual Meeting
- Sunday, 3/15 poster shoot
- Production Teams – costume, marketing, sets, etc.
The following events should take place as planned pending further development of the virus:
- Senior Honors Night
- Awards Night
- Summer Camp
- Summer acting, vocal, and dance workshops
We know you may have questions, and we will do our best to answer them; please be patient as we work to respond to everyone. Information about finances, such as tuition and volunteer hours will be addressed in a follow-up email.
So… what will you do with your time now? PRACTICE! Sing your songs; practice your lines; practice any choreography you’ve learned so far; and STAY HEALTHY! As Amy Fancher says, “This is just pushing pause.” Hug your actors extra closely tonight. We love all of you dearly and this is what guided our decision – our love and care of all our families.
